Sicko
So,I went and watched this film on the big screen at Oxford Theatre on Quinpool Road today. Must say,I was impressed with this documentary;may be that’s why it received such good reviews especially here in Canada I guess .
This documentary film by director Michael Moore investigates the United States health care system with a focus on the behavior and treatments by HMO’s, and brings in contracts of the U.S system with other countries which have universal health coverage.Moore takes us on a brief tour of the systems in Canada, England, and France, Cuba deftly demonstrating why the United States is currently ranked 37th in the world in health care. Some scenes were very touching and a wake up call.
However, Mr. Moore’s description of the advantages of the Canadian system in the film is superficial.
We do have huge wait times for certain surgical treatments, which we read on and off in the news. The universal MSI NS Health Card only provides eligible residents with coverage for medically required hospital, physican services with some restrictions. If you are in university you pay separate health insurance for dental and optometric services as well as for medicines .If you are only permanently employed full-time your employer pays for this, otherwise to be safe you buy them.
There were claps in the theatre at the end of the documentary,so I guess people liked it.A must watch just once!
