Edmonton Heritage Festival

It’s a long weekend in Edmonton and I visited the Heritage festival at the William Hawrelak Park today.

It was for sure bigger than the Multi Cultural Festival in Halifax with a lot of different cuisines from different countries. I enjoyed some of the live music and dance performances, food, and cultural exhibits and should mention the Knock School of Irish Dancers, they were amazing.

I had a chance to try some chapman’s fudge icecream at the festival and langos from the Hungarian tent .The langos is simply a round and flat bread-puff (made of, flour, butter, yeast and salt ) deep-fried in oil and garnished with powdered sugar. It was too oily for me after a few bites though, but the icecream was Ok.

Here are some pictures from the Heritage Festival.

Kismat Konnection

I watched this movie over the weekend. It’s a nice, cute, emotional movie, and all the actors  played their characters quite well. Juhi brought a smile to the movie with her character as a bubbly  lucky charm teller  Haseena Bano Jaan .

Can be watched once and the movie has some good humming numbers :)

Bakhuda Tumhi Ho is nice to listen.

So what is Cuil?

It’s another search engine launched beginning of this week,  and I should say I am less than impressed with Cuil. It has a very different look and a very different “feel” to it. Personally I just didn’t know where to look and the search results are too different from google. The thing is it seems to be good for corporate search rather for personal websites and blogs. I searched for results on the university that I recently  graduated from and it gave a good ranking for the main university website.

Will have to wait and see as how it goes in the future, but it is sure not a threat to google anyways.

Total Eclipse of the Sun

It was an experience of a lifetime for some who had a chance to view the solar eclipse early today morning I guess, especially people in Northern Hemisphere of Canada .

Although ,not visible in Edmonton it was nice watching it over the internet.I heard from my parents back home they had a partial eclipse starting at 4pm in the evening.

The next total solar eclipse will be on July 22, 2009, and viewable in India, Nepal, Bangladesh, Bhutan and China;and next total solar eclipse that will be visible across North America will be on Aug. 21, 2017.
