Varsha Pirappu, is the New Year in Tamil Nadu, and is observed on the first day of the Tamil month Chithirai. Chitirai is the first month in the Hindu Tamil Calendar. Tamil speaking southindians  refer the New Year as Puthandu  meaning ‘ New Year.’ Since 2008 is a leap year, the date of Tamil New Year is April 13.

I am on visit to Chennai,and  trying out my favorite snacks at all the sweet shops I know and grew up with: like Agarwal Bhavan,Shree Mithai,Grand Sweets and Snacks, Adyar Ananda Bhavan Sweets and Snacks.

I must say,the quality of Adyar Ananda Bhavan Sweets and Snacks is still the same or even better.I really like their Mini-Thatai,Ribbon pakoda,Pepper Mota Sev,Kaju-Sone-Cake and Bombay-Halwa.

Shree Mithai  is good for their sweets especially their Jelabi and Mothi-Laddu .

Sweet somass,navadaaneeyam mix  are my favorites at the Grand Sweets and Snacks.I like their Chennai-Chaat style counter for Adai,mini-idli-sambar and coffee out in Annanagar. 

Yumm Yum………..I  will miss it sometimes  in Canada
